The 7 grades went to Enseada da Baleia, more specifically to a community of fisherman in Cardoso Island with a goal to study the habits of who lives there.
The Island is located at a distant shore in SP. We were there for 3 days, from the 29th to the 31th. We got there by boat with the help of Quiron, a travel agency.
The community shares their income equally, the community currently gives R$ 800 to each member of the community per month.
The community went through troubles, because of the death of mister Malaquias and because of the island being considered a park. Mister Malaquias was a community leader, because he was the contact to the fish buyers, besides dealing with other economic issues related to the island.
The community was founded 173 years ago by a Japanese named Kuxiama. He was a partner of mister Malaquia´s father.
Our interviews showed that the people of the community don´t want to move to another place, they are fighting to stay in the island. The old cove recently suffered an erosion, this happened because the residents of the old community opened a path to pass boats, this made a 173 meter wide crack between the island and the country which was predictable and because of that nobody lives in the old community anymore.
